Exodus 4:17

And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs. (NKJV)
Moses was faced with a major assignment. He was to deliver the children of Israel from bondage in Egypt. The key question was, "…But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, 'The LORD has not appeared to you.'" (Exodus 4:1). The answer from the LORD was very simple, "What is that in your hand?" (Exodus 4:2). The thing that Moses had in his hand was the rod. Moses was a professional shepherd. He had forty years experience on the job. Moses knew how to use the rod. God empowered the same rod for signs and wonders. You might be reading this article and in one way or the other you are feeling like Moses. The answer to all your doubts and fears is the rod in your hand. The rod in your hand stands for something you are good at. Every man or woman whom God used discovered the rod that was in their hands. God will always use what you are good at to promote you. It was playing the harp that took David from the bush looking after sheep to the palace in the presence of the King. It was interpreting dreams that took Joseph from prison to the palace; it was her good looking coupled with one year of preparation that made Esther to become Queen in a foreign land. The world is full of people with major handicaps but their lives were turned round as soon as they discovered their areas of expertise.  They worked hard to improve in those areas! You are not at the end your journey; you have the rod in your hand!

Never look down on your rod. Someone’s rod might be music it doesn’t matter. Another person’s rod might be cooking. For another it might be sports while for another it might be business or preaching or full time employment. The type of rod does not matter. All you need is the rod! Others may look down on your rod but do not get bothered. What must you do? Firstly present your rod to the Lord. Secondly allow the Lord to empower your rod. Finally apply your rod in the place of your assignment. Follow these steps and soon you will be testifying!
