When Laban asked Jacob what should be his wages, Jacob answered as follows:
Let me pass through all your flock today, removing from there all the speckled and spotted sheep, and all the brown ones among the lambs, and the spotted and speckled among the goats; and these shall be my wages. So my righteousness will answer for me in time to come, when the subject of my wages comes before you: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the lambs, will be considered stolen, if it is with me." And Laban said, "Oh, that it were according to your word!" Gen 30:32-34:
At that time the speckled, the spotted and the brown were the least and the weakest among the flock so Laban had no problem accepting it to be the wages for Jacob. How did Jacob think of such a salary figure? Jacob arrived at such a salary figure because of the dream he had before! Here is what the Bible says:
"And it happened, at the time when the flocks conceived, that I lifted my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the rams which leaped upon the flocks were streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted. Then the Angel of God spoke to me in a dream, saying, 'Jacob.' And I said, 'Here I am.' And He said, 'Lift your eyes now and see, all the rams which leap on the flocks are streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted; for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you…..'" -- Gen 31:10-13
It is very hard to explain genetically the multiplication which Jacob experienced. What caused the multiplication is the power of God. When Jacob had a dream and began to speak the dream, the spiritual forces of multiplication, whose command centre is in the third heaven, and whose Commander in Chief is Jesus, were released and things began to happen on earth. The unusual happened! God began to multiply what belonged to Jacob such that within a short time Jacob became very prosperous. The Bible says of Jacob Gen 30:43
Thus the man became exceedingly prosperous, and had large flocks, female and male servants, and camels and donkeys
Here is a word for you:
The journey to great exploits starts with the ability to see a bright future in the midst of chaotic situation. No matter what you are passing through never paint a gloomy picture of yourself. Never say such as, “This year will be my worst year or today the day will be very bad.” Be excited about the future because you know that your future is in the hands of God. Jacob is a good example. He had a crooked father in-law who was also his boss. But even in that state he still managed to dream. Begin to dream. Begin to see beyond the present. See hope at the end of your present effort. Form pictures of the future you desire. Form pictures of yourself having completed your studies; form pictures of revival; form pictures of you having a successful career; form pictures of yourself having a good family and so on. When you form those pictures the next thing is to speak them into existence. You will win.
