1 Kings 17:13-16
And Elijah said to her, "Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the LORD sends rain on the earth.'"

So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke by Elijah.

Is there such a thing as prosperity for the Children of God? Is there such a thing as continuance provision? The answer to these questions is YES!   Let us look at the story of the widow of Zarephath in the above text. There was drought in the whole land of Israel.

When Elijah told the poor widow to give her last meal to him, he might have sounded selfish or arrogant. But when she obeyed the instruction from the man of God the supplies never run out. There is a principle that is fundamental in the economy of God that is to put God first. When you put God first you are saying that God is your source.

Just take another look at the story: God had already demonstrated His ability to sustain Elijah by commanding the ravens to bring him food every day. God would have still looked after Elijah in another way. But there was this widow and her family who needed to be sustained through out the drought period. May be she was praying and God heard her prayer. God sent Elijah into her life as a channel for the flow of the blessings of God. Often when God wants to bless a man He sends a man. In the Kingdom, God must be first and yourself last. Jesus said:

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you Matt 6:33

You might be there to day reading this article and you are in a similar situation like the Widow of Zarephath. Let me tell you something. Do like this widow. Prayerfully give to the Lord first whether it is your tithe or offerings and trust Him to meet your needs afterwards.
